There is little formal education that is necessary to start a chauffeur service. You are required to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. As far as a license goes, obviously you need to have a regular driver’s license. On top of that, there are specific licenses that chauffeurs need to have. The license is not so much for the chauffeur service but to drive a taxi, limousine, or other public vehicle. Sometimes it is necessary to have a commercial driver’s license which means that you are qualified to drive around 16+ passengers at one time.
Nature of a Chauffeur Service
You have to be a people-person because you will be constantly dealing with different types of people. As a chauffeur, you will be taking people to and from their home, business place, special events, and so on. Sometimes you may be required to not only be a driver but also a tour guide. If you’re picking up tourists that are on vacation, you’re going to have to show them around your area. The fun part about having a chauffeur service is that you will be dealing with a variety of people and situations.
Customers of Chauffeur Services
Generally, you will be handling hotel customers, people out on the town, corporate shuttling, weddings, funerals, and other special events. Knowing your potential market, you can decide whether to specialize in one area or to take on a variety of customers. Obviously, you want to do what is going to ultimately be the most profitable for you. Considering that you will have to pay for your own vehicle, you’re going to have some startup costs. You want to take on customers that will end up bringing you the biggest profits.
Corporate customers can have a variety of events that require your chauffeur services. Some of the services may be for their own executives or for customers and clients. Much of their business involves airport-to-hotel travel, and shuttling to restaurants and entertainment venues. Corporate customers are generally going to be more demanding than other customers. They expect you to be prompt and reliability. Sometimes they will be traveling for a special event and they need to be there on time.
